Gumnaam hosted by Haider, is a programme
based on factual materials provided by
an unknown person. The unknown individual
sent a number of video recordings to Geo,
identifying criminals and their networks.
The episode based on a bootlegger’s
illegal bail was shocking and compelled
us to write about the programme. The show
is one of its kind and a very courageous
effort by the person who is trying to
show the menace lurking in our society.
Geo gave him the name Gumnam. In that
particular episode Gumnam, with the help
of his hidden camera, narrated the story
of Mona (bootlegger), who was caught with
250 litres of alcohol and all his pleas
were rejected by the courts. Mona then
used the power of currency, and by spending
fifteen lakhs as bribe, he managed to
get out of prison. Gumnam not only recorded
the whole incident, but he also revealed
the names of doctors, policemen and people
from the court involved.
The programme is essentially designed
to expose dishonest and corrupt elements
in our society, elements that are clogging
our progress. Also, it proposes to raise
consciousness of individuals by bringing
the bitter aspects of our environment
to light.

for the betterment of the society, and
